  • 60 reserves have been created, which allow for sustainable recreation and educational activities.

About

The context
The Niagara Escarpment stretches along 725km of the Great Lakes and is home to dense forests, rugged cliffs, and the Niagara Falls. Abundant with wetlands, woodlands, oak savannahs and conifer swamps, these habitats collectively boast the highest level of species diversity in Canada.

The project
The not-for-profit Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy have created 12,500 acres of reserves to halt the clearing of these forests and wetlands. These conservation activities protect forests that would otherwise be logged, protecting local species and provide the chance for the public to visit and walk the tracks here.
